Thanks to agent Richard Hoffman, I managed to secure an interview with actress CCH Pounder, who we all know from Psycho IV: The Beginning as Fran Ambrose, the host of the KTK AM 490 radio program in which Norman Bates recalls his childhood during a discussion on matricide. This is a short interview because Ms. Pounder is busy on the FX TV series The Shield. Ms. Pounder also sent me the photo you see to the left as well as the one underneath signed!
How did you land the role of Fran Ambrose in Psycho IV and how long did it take you to film your scenes?
I went to an audition for the part. As far as the filming, I don't remember exactly but it was intense and then it was suddenly over.
How was it working with Director Mick Garris?
It was great and a great learning arena.
John Landis was in your segment. Describe him and how it was working with him.
He was energetic with lots of stories.
Since you are never actually on screen in the same scene with Anthony Perkins, did you ever meet him? If so, what was he like.
Yes I did meet him. He was distant, somewhat morose; possibly in character.
Where did you film your scenes for the movie?
On the Universal Studios Florida lot.
Do you remember any anecdotes from the filming or any funny bloopers/outtakes?
There wasn't any that I can remember.
Do you have any advice for people who are interested in becoming actors or filmmakers?
Well to have a keen interest in doing this type of work is one's strongest ally - it seems crazy to tell people to find a place to study when so many come from off the street and some do well, but I do believe that actors have longevity in the business if they have a solid foundation.
