What did you do on Psycho IV?
Make Up Artist/ Florida California had a crew as well. I was working on a shoot down in West Palm Beach when I met a grip who told me about Psycho IV...made some contacts and was hired as a local to work with the LA Crew.

Describe what it was like to be working on the set of a prequel to a Hitchcock classic
It was pretty awesome to work with the crew and be a part of Universal's Grand Opening Film. The film gave Universal credibility as a working studio and a big draw for the park. The Bates Motel was notorious. The celebs were really into their characters. It was a bit haunting.

Talk more about Universal Orlando - it was the first production there and you were on set.
Working at Universal on their first largest working project went pretty well. The Florida crew was just as experienced as the LA Crew. I learned a lot from the Special Effects Department. The shoots were well directed and not a lot of down time.

21 years ago was quite a long time ago. Do you recall any on the set situations or anecdotes?
Lots of stories, we keep them to ourselves so that we can't be sued. One innocent story was that Anthony Perkins come into Makeup first, about 4 in the morning, I would make him up while he ate a tuna sandwich and drank coffee, not a good combo to smell that early in the morning. He wasn't very pleasant most of the time.

Tony Perkins wasn't very pleasant?
I was one of his Makeup Artists. He didn't seem to socialize often with the crew. He had his "people" with him. He did seem like his illness was affecting him. It wasn't well known he was sick at that time. He would often limit the time in make up. It's so sad. I wouldn't say he was a bad guy. He gave Mick a hard time way too often on that set.

How was it working with director Mick Garris?
Mick did a great job. He was friendly and knew his stuff. Not a lot of wasted time. It was a pleasure to work with him

How was it working with other cast members?
Olivia Hussey was beautiful, friendly and curvaceous. Almost everyone enjoyed her personality and acting. Henry Thomas was a pretty cool dude, he partied after hours with the crew and sat around a played the guitar and sang. He was easy to work with. I have pictures of us together. Nothing was too much for him, real outgoing and fun. I had last seen him when he was the little boy on ET, then to see him as a man, there was quite a change. The young man who played Norman had the same look as Henry Thomas..guess that is why they casted him...He was cute.

So what did you think of your experience working on Psycho IV?
I enjoyed being a part of a notorious film. Most people I know would have liked to have been on the set. When the house was on fire, we shot in the middle of the night and it seemed like it took an eternity. The pyro crew really put on a show. I guess the overall experience was memorable. I really didn't know that Psycho had such a following. I guess I can say I worked with Anthony Perkins in one of his last classics. Being a part of a classic, I can say my work will live on......

What did you think of the movie itself?
The movie was good. I was never much of a fan prior to working on the film. Seeing how it was made and knowing each of the scenes put together, I enjoyed the end result.

What are you up to now?
I am a Freelance Production makeup artist in Orlando Florida and own a cool shop on Antique Row called Sequel.
