Universal Studios Florida is one of the largest motion picture and television studio's outside of Hollywood, California. The amusement park/production headquarters opened on June 7th, 1990. It promised visitors that it was the only place on Earth where they could "Ride the Movies." The 444-acre studio features nine state-of-the-art sound stages, more than 100 backlot locations and broadcast studios. Since the production center opened in late 1988, they've been the site of extensive production activity including feature films, television shows, commercials, game shows, music videos, corporate videos and more.
When producers George Zaloom and Les Mayfield approached Hilton Green about making a prequel to Psycho, they had a meeting with Sid Sheinberg, the head of production in California. During the pitch, the studio executives loved the idea. Sheinberg walked over to a table that had a giant map of some vacant land in the middle of Orlando, Florida. He told Green, Zaloom and Mayfield that a new Universal Studios was going to be built on that very spot, pointed to a hill on the far right side and said "that's where we'll put the new Psycho House and Bates Motel for Psycho IV: The Beginning.
The studio was constructed during 1988 - 1990. The film was actually in production during the park's opening. Enjoy the following section - almost a time capsule in pictures of the studio, the Hitchcock attraction, the Bates House and Motel and Psycho IV!
